My weekly Denver live music weekend picks are coming a little earlier this week, largely because some of the best shows are on the verge of selling out, and I want to make sure readers have a chance to pick up tickets if they want to go. Aren’t I thoughtful?

Anyhow, there are some great bands performing this weekend. Here they are…

FRIDAY, MAR.8

Denver’s own Churchill will be headlining at the Ogden Theatre, 935 E. Colfax in Denver. Opening the show are Ha Ha Tonka and Autumn Film. Tickets are $20, plus service charge, available from Ogden Theatre. Doors at 8:00 PM; show starts at 9:00. Ages 16+. (NOTE: This show is likely to sell out–don’t wait and get tickets at the door.)

Local indie-rockers My Body Sings Electric are headlining a show at the Bluebird Theater, 3317 E. Colfax in Denver. Openers include Rachel and the Kings, Chemistry Club and Carson Allen. Tickets are $12 plus service charge, available from the Bluebird Theater. Doors at 7:30; show starts at 8:00. Ages 16+. (NOTE: This show is also close to selling out, so act quickly.)

SATURDAY, MAR. 9

Illegal Pete’s will be sponsoring a “Starving Artists Showcase” at SXSW in Austin next week, featuring a great lineup of Colorado bands. In advance, they are hosting a special SXSW pre-party here in Denver at the Summit Music Hall, 1902 Blake Street in downtown Denver. The extended lineup features indie-rockers The Epilogues (just back from tour), along with A. Tom Collins, The Photo Atlas, You, Me & Apollo, Input & Broken, The Knew, Flashbulb Fires, Eldren, Fierce Bad Rabbit and Post Paradise. Tickets for all these great acts is $9.33 advance, $12 day of show (a great deal, either way), available from Soda Jerk Presents. Doors at 6:30 PM. This is an all-ages show!

Have a great weekend!
